YACademy F4 Winter Series Completes First Three Rounds at Homestead Miami Speedway

“Canadian Mac Clark closes the weekend on top”

Feb 12, 2021 – The much-anticipated YACademy F4 Winter Series completed their first on track event late this week as the growing program took on the road course at the famed Homestead Miami Speedway. Increasing in competitors from year-to-year, Canadian Mac Clark and Gonella Racing claimed the overall win claiming the highest number of points over the three races.

“It was a great start to our YACademy F4 Winter Series,” explained Series Promoter Gustavo Yacaman. “Congrats to Mac on his strong debut and overall win and huge thank you to the teams and competitors that came out to compete and support. It is a quick turnaround as we are back on track Monday and Tuesday at the Sebring International Raceway, but we could not be more anxious and excited.”

With three teams represented in the top three of the overall weekend winners, Mac Clark and Gonella Racing stood atop the podium, including taking home the Ettrone Pole Position Award while Velocity Racing Development’s Nico Christodoulou claimed the second step. Jay Howard Driver Development Matt Christensen was able to garner enough points to finish third overall as the field of drivers completed three, eighteen lap wheel-to-wheel events.

Yacaman continued, “We are keeping it fun and real for everyone. We had a live DJ, Mik Mish who performed all weekend long while supply a Ferrari 458 as the pace car to lead the field to green. We had had huge partners in Sienna Motors, Redbull and Miami Exotic Racing as well as the awesome support from Hankook, our tire supplier and biggest supporter to date. It should be noted that we only had one yellow flag in our three races proving the safety of our series and coachability of our competitors.”

“Early on in the weekend the guys from Gonella Racing drew up a good strategy and we were able to save four brand new Hankook Tires for the final race,” explained Overall Winner Mac Clark. “It really worked out for us as the track is really draft dependent and with the new tires, I was able to pull away in the infield and maintain down the straightaways.”

Clark continued, “We still have a few things we can work on and I think that will make us even stringer for Sebring. Massive thanks to Ernie and all the guys from Gonella Racing as well as everyone who has helped me get here.”

Second place finisher Nico Christodoulou added, “It was an up and down day with a win in race one but some issues in race two. In the final race, we had some great speed in the corners but just lacked some overall straight-line speed. I had a great battle with my teammate, but it cost me a lot of time to Mac. I am excited for Sebring; I love that track and can’t wait.”

Jay Howard’s Matt Christensen explained, “We had some bad luck in the first race but that got better as the day went on. I was a little lucky to be in the position I was in race three and advanced after a spin by another competitor. I really wanted to make a run for second but congrats to Nico on defending well. I have some things to fix before Sebring but we are going to work together as a team and I am very happy with P3. Thank you to my Dad, Jay Howard and all the guys from JHDD.”

Next stop: Sebring International Raceway February 15 – 16.
