YACademy Winter Series Drivers Shine in F4 and FR Openers (Road Atlanta)

“Canadian Mac Clark closes the weekend on top”

April 1, 2021  – Proving the importance of their program this past weekend at the opening rounds of the F4 United States Championship and the FR Americas Championships Powered by Honda, YACademy Series drivers were at the head of the class. Claiming race wins, podium results and pole positions, drivers were able to use the knowledge and experience gained in the Winter Series and Pre-Season test programs to stand on the podium blocks at the Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.

“It is great to see the success of our graduates on the national stage,” explained Gustavo Yacaman. “To see where these young drivers came from to where they were this past weekend is incredible and to think that we had a small part in helping in their success is rewarding.”

Kyffin Simpson and TJ Speed would sweep the FR Americas Championship Powered by Honda proceedings taking the pole position, fastest race lap in all three races and three victories on his way to a dominating weekend. TJ Speed would also see YACademy competitor Varun Choksey earn one top five result and three top ten finishes. Velocity Racing Development (VRD) drivers Hunter Yeany and Matt Round-Garrido battled hard in FR Americas consistently progressing throughout the weekend scoring six top ten finishes between them. Additionally, Yeany and Round-Garrido both had their best finishes of the weekend in the third and final event on Sunday.

VRD and Jason Alder would have similar dominance in the F4 side of the program as Alder qualified on the front row and earned three podium results, two of them race wins, in his series debut. F4 teammate Nico Christodoulou scored himself three top six results in the twenty-eight-car field while Jay Howard Driver Development competitor Matt Christensen added a pair of top five results. Continuing on with the success, Rodrigo Guiterrez and Mac Clark added top ten results for YACademy Series drivers as Arturo Flores and used his experience gaining in the Winter Series program to find himself in the thick of the racing action.

Yacaman continued, “We are working on more test days in 2021 and putting the pieces together on the 2022 YACademy Winter Series. Taking what we learned as a program, we will fine tune our schedule and approach as we look to provide the most affordable track time in the country, especially during the popular winter months.”
